Yob Culture - Just What Exactly Is It?
You all know the usual suspects - teens with designer outfits made to make them look like they are true dyed-in-the whool metropolitan slum area goons, loitering at street corners, posing with lowered cars, elegantly throwing fastfood wrappers to the ground in an effort to attract public disgust, then ingesting enough alcohol to kill a horse and punching each other until one goes down - where has this come from??? It wasn't there 5 years ago? Who started this? It's everywhere: Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States, Mexico, Germany, France - what's the source of inspiration for all this? Is it MTV, magazines, ... what??? People don't get born with a natural instinct to be this way, do they?
I do not think it really has not reached the US yet. At least not on the East Coast. I live in a big East Coast city and have seen no evidence of it. Nothing even close.
However, I am aware of the culture and worry about its spread. So to answer your question... I agree that it is not natural and there must be taught and, for some reason, permitted by society.
I do think MTV is a very bad influence, and may very well be one of the causes --TV and Music in general. And what I really do not understand is what companies like MTV have to gain by lowering society's standards and the expectations of today's youth.
Someone please.. bring back class and style.
